Rebecca Roy – Psychotherapist for Children, Teens & Adults

Rebecca Roy-Jarboe, M.A.

About Me

My primary theoretical orientation is psychodynamic, meaning that I work with the underlying unconscious processes at the root of emotional pain. In this framework, it is believed the determining influences of personality are environmental, biological and psychological elements of early relationships. Links are then provided to current experiences so that the client can increase his or her internal awareness and make new choices.

However, in all instances, I do what is best for the client and his or her needs.

This may mean working in a grounded, solution-focused way that gets to the root of the issues quickly and perhaps involves homework. It may mean working in a deeper analytic way on past issues and patterns which keep repeating in your life. In each case, I primarily take a depth perspective but am flexible enough to let the presenting issues and needs dictate treatment.

In every instance, I strive to provide a safe therapeutic environment. It is extremely important that you feel comfortable with me, or any therapist you work with, because these are the most important issues you face. You want to know that the therapist is someone you can trust.

I work with children, adolescents, individuals and couples. Specialty areas include:

  • depression
  • anxiety
  • relationship issues (including gay and lesbian)
  • sexual and emotional abuse
  • creative artists/creative blocks
  • posttraumatic stress
  • mood disorders such as Bipolar Disorder
  • life and career transitions
  • self-esteem
  • women's issues
  • executive and life coaching

My experience and training includes a master's degree in Clinical Psychology and over 3,000 hours of direct face-to-face clinical experience (600 of those hours doing therapy with children and adolescents). I received my training at AIDS Project Los Angeles and the Center for Individual and Family Counseling. I am currently pursuing my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology.

I have a strong interest in working with artists because of my own extensive background in the Entertainment Industry.

I also bring a sense of optimism and energy to my work, which comes from nearly 20 years as an athlete and coach to national, world and Olympic champions.

I look forward to helping you live a happier, healthier life.

My MFT Intern # is IMF49373. I am a registered BBS Intern and am supervised by Betsy Spier, MFC #40162.
