Creative Artists’ Issues

Creative artists impact untold numbers of people through their work. Without you and your brilliant creativity and life force, our society would be far less rich and vibrant. For many artists, the need to create is a deep and primal one. Some people would cease to survive without it.

Unfortunately, artists often deal with:

  • Depression,
  • Substance Abuse
  • Sexual acting out
  • Intense anxiety
  • Relationship issues
  • Abusive work environments
  • Self-destructive behavior

The reality life for so many artists is that someone else generally controls whether or not that creative force gets expressed or not.  Dealing with the reality of that external locus of control takes very strong ego strength. Years in the Industry can grind that strength down.

Most artists became artists because they started with a hole somewhere in their heart that needed to be filled. They once approached their art with the abandonment and joy of a child. The nature of being an artist requires you to maintain this sense of joy.

But when the reality of the business intrudes, life in Los Angeles can become a downward cycle. Some self-destruct with drugs or alcohol, others become extremely angry, start acting out, become seriously depressed, think about leaving the business they love or become hopelessly creatively blocked.

I have developed a unique way of working with artists that will help you regain their passion and your emotional health which is based on a realistic understanding of the Entertainment Industry in Los Angeles.  For more detailed information, please see my other website, www.theIndustryTherapist.com.

The cornerstone of this work involves:

  • Tapping into each person’s individual psychological process to stop that downward cycle.
  • Discovering what makes you feel stuck in your creative process.
  • Help you stop self-sabotaging behaviors, whether on auditions, in performance or in the business end of the Industry.
  • Help you avoid toxic situations so you can reconnect with that childlike part of you that still feels the joy of creating.
  • Help you find healthier ways to relate to others while maintaining your artistic edge.

This is a deep process and is tailored to helping you get back your creative life force.

This work combines elements of coaching and therapy. With over 20 years of experience working with U.S., World and Olympic champions, including serving as artistic consultant to the 1996 U.S. Olympic Synchronized Swimming Team (gold medalists), combined with years of working in the Entertainment Industry, I have a real-world perspective on knowing what helps artists and athletes regain their passion and focus and maintain their positive edge.

This work has helped many people regain their power and creativity and get their careers back. Using this method, the 1996 U.S. Olympic Synchronized Swimming Team won a gold medal when I served as artistic consultant. The result was straight 10′s in artistic achievement (unprecedented for the sport at the time in Olympic history).

You do not have to give up your dreams. You have spent untold years, energy and money to pursue them. I urge you to give therapy with me a try first.
