Starting Psychotherapy/FAQ's

WHAT WILL THERAPY DO FOR ME?

  • Help alleviate pain and confusion
  • Help you resolve past issues
  • Help develop coping skills
  • Help develop better relationships with yourself and others

HOW LONG WILL THERAPY TAKE?

Length of treatment and successful treatment depends on two factors: 1) the skill of the therapist and 2) client's willingness and/or ability to be a partner in his or her treatment.

For treatment to be successful, both the therapist and the client must work together. But you must make the choice to participate in therapy and you ultimately must make the choice to change. A therapist can only guide you.

Strong feelings may come up during the course of therapy. Feelings which have long been buried such as anger, disappointment, frustration, sadness, loneliness. This is part of the process and important to bring forth in order to deal with them. This is when it is critical that you need to trust your therapist to guide you through this part of the therapy.

Ultimately, you will discover your potential, your personal happiness and engage in healthier relationships.
